Calvin Ray Harris, born on September 18, 1926, was called to eternal life on September 21, 2017 after reaching his 91st birthday.
He was educated in the Winston Salem Public Schools and served in the United States Navy.
He earned a Bachelor's degree from Winston Salem State University and a Masters from NC A&T State University. He is a member of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity.
Calvin retired from Greensboro Public Schools after many years as band leader, teaching art music at Mt Zion Elementary and Lincoln Junior High Schools.
He was a faithful member of Providence Baptist Church for over 60 years and one of several recent PBC Golden Membership Award Honorees.
He was currently engaged in part-time employment at the House of Health on Gate City Blvd.
Calvin Ray Harris leaves behind to honor his life and memory, a daughter, Cynthia J. Harris of Raleigh; brother, Dr. William Harris and wife, Phyllis of Hatfield, PA; niece, Cheryl Johnson of Charlotte; nephew, Reginald Harris and wife, Natalie of Bear, DE; three great nieces, Gabrielle Johnson, Lauren and Janell Harris; a special cousin, Mildred Griffin of Winston Salem; and many family and friends. He is preceded in death by sister, Daisy Reid Chambers of Winston Salem.

Visitation begins at 12 noon on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Providence Baptist Church at 1106 Tuscaloosa Street in Greensboro prior to services at 1:00pm.
