Willie Mills Obituary

Willie Mae Holland Mills of High Point, NC, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022 at Verra Springs at Heritage Greens in Greensboro, NC. at the age of 91.  She was born June 16, 1930, in Randolph County to the late Daniel Holland and Una Mary Evans Holland Quick.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Charlie Holland, Leo Holland, and Rev. Cornelius Holland; and two sisters, Eleanor Greene and Susie Holland.  Willie Mae was also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert (Honey) Mills and her daughter, Pasedia Ledane Mills.

Willie Mae loved her family and loved cooking for them and for her beloved church family of Bethel Glenola United Methodist Church. There she was a life member, Sunday-school teacher, a lay-speaker, a Bible- study teacher, organist, pianist, youth director, and always a ‘steady rock’ for all that attended over the years.  She was also a longtime member and leader of the United Methodist Women.

Willie also worked for many years and retired from the Guilford County Health Department as a C.N.A.  She also was floor manager at J. C. Penny for 20 years.  She was often recognized and fondly remembered as a caring and helpful person by so many everywhere she went around High Point.

She leaves with loving memories, daughter, Dr. Patricia Smith of Fredericksburg, VA, son, Dwight Mills and wife Judy of Raleigh, NC;  her grandchildren Christopher Mills (Carlyn) of Lovettesville, VA, Jessica Hartong  (Gary) of Wake Forest, NC, and Jonathan Mills of Raleigh, NC; along with 7 great- grandchildren. Also, her brothers, Richard Holland (Angie) of Augusta, GA, Joseph Holland (Margaret) of Mobile, Alabama, Tony Holland (Connie) of Greensboro, NC and her sister Dianne Striggles (Robert) of Augusta, GA.

Also surviving her are many very special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Over the years Willie Mae – aka -‘Sis’, ‘Mom’, ‘Ms Willie’, ‘Aint Mae’, ‘Aunt Wullah Mae’, was loved, honored and cared for by all the family and many friends….. too many to name.  However, we want to recognize one who went above and beyond to give her time, energy, and nursing skills to the extra care that was needed in the final years.  Deborah Scott, we love and appreciate you and can’t thank you enough.

May God bless all the Mills and Holland family.
