Willie Lucas Obituary

Romans 14:8 states, “For if we live, we live unto the Lord: and if we die, we die unto the Lord.” The only comfort and security we have in this life is that we belong to the Lord. Willie Paul Lucas was merely lent to us as a son, brother, husband, father and friend until March 29, 2020, when the Lord called him home. All who love him will truly miss him, and we will always carry him in our hearts.

Willie Paul Lucas was born in Marlboro County, SC, on September 28, 1946, to Watt Oliver Lucas and Carrie Lee Woods Lucas.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Carrie Lee Lucas and Elease Lucas Miles; brothers John Lucas Sr., Roosevelt Lucas Sr., and Wallace Lucas; brothers-in-law Theodore Dilligard Sr. and Kelso Miles Jr.; and sisters-in-law Sylvia Lucas and Inez Lucas.

Paul graduated from Blenheim High School in 1967. In 1968 he moved to Trinity, NC, where he met and married Gloria Holmes Lucas. During his early 20’s, he developed a passion for traveling, which led him to become a truck driver and travel the country for over 40 years.  He eventually started his own trucking company, Lucas Heavy Hauling.

Paul was a passionate and outspoken man who enjoyed life. He loved working on his automobiles, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends.

Paul is now at rest from his earthly labor and trucking on the highways of Heaven!  He leaves to cherish his memory, wife: Gloria Lucas of High Point, NC; three sons: Willie (Sonya) Cook of Laredo, TX, Jonathan Lucas of Greensboro, NC, and Jeffrey (Amy) Lucas of High Point, NC; six daughters:Sophia Baker and Erica Lucas (David) Miller of High Point, NC, Katrina Melvin of Fayetteville, NC, Paula (Leroy Kelly) Kirkland of Reevesville, SC, Jasmine Kirkland of Orangeburg, SC, and Tori (Ashanti) Catlin-Greenburg of Greensboro, NC; four brothers: Prentiss (Ella Mae) Lucas of Latta, SC, Charles Lucas of Candor, SC, Joseph Lucas of High Point, NC, and Perry Lucas of Bennettsville, SC; two sisters: Ella Lucas Dilligard of Columbia, SC, and Willie Mae Lucas McCrae of Bennettsville, SC; two sister-in-laws: Catherine Lucas and Nettie Lucas of High Point, NC; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
