Willie Ferree Obituary

Willie Devern Ferree, affectionately known as Vern or Vernie, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025. Devern was born May 12, 1957, in Asheboro, North Carolina to the late Willie Mae Ferree and Ervin Coltrane. She was raised in Randleman, North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, James B. Ferree and Terry Ray Ferree.

Those left to cherish her memory are:

Aunt: Lois A. Hayes (Henry A.); Stepmother: Conseulo “Connie” Coltrane; Children: André Ferree (Kim), D.J. Ferree (Yolit), Jessica Ferree, Derrick Ferree and Johnathan Ferree; Grandchildren: Nolan Ferree, Peyton Ferree, Iszyah Ferree, and Raven Hayes; Great-grandchild: Carter Weger; Siblings: Phillip Ferree (Mary), Lenord Ferree (Sara), Darryl Ferree, Lisa Quick (Larry), Lester Ferree, Irving Coltrane (Diana), Lisa Coltrane, Cecil Coltrane, Anthony Coltrane; and Goddaughter Marcie Hill. Devern also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Devern graduated from Randleman High School and went to build a life marked by hard work, resilience and devotion. Devern loved the Lord and put Him first in her life. She was a loyal member of Ferree’s Chapel United Methodist Church, faithfully serving in the church over the years as a choir member, Sunday School teacher and church treasurer.

Devern was known for being genuine, thoughtful, giving, and kind-hearted, consistently putting others first before herself. She delighted in spending time with family and friends, sharing laughs and reminiscing on “the good old days.” Her personality was authentic and she did not judge those around her.

Devern’s greatest accomplishment was being a mother to her five children. She loved them unconditionally and bragged about them often. She was proud to be a mother, and even more proud of her children and grandchildren. Devern will truly be missed, but she will be remembered for her unwavering love, and dedication to her children, family and friends
