Mr. William Edward Collins was born October 14, 1940, in Marlboro County, SC. William was affectionately known as “Deacon Collins” and “Cig” or “Wilmo” to family members. He was the 2 nd oldest of eight siblings.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Lee Collins-Thomas and grandparents, Bishop W.C. Collins and Mrs. Elizabeth McCall Collins.
William graduated from Carver High School in Laurel Hill, NC and worked at Dillard Plastics Inc. in management for many years and Latimer B Alexander Inc. before retiring. He was a faithful member at Stanton Place Church of God of Prophecy (COGOP) under the leadership of Bishop Floyd D. Collins, where he served in many capacities: Band leader, Male Chorus, Deacon Board and participated in several church events. William was an avid sports enthusiast, following his favorite teams from home, his passion for athletics was clear to all who knew him. He cherished time spent outdoors, often finding quiet joy simply sitting beneath the open sky, appreciating the beauty and peace of nature.
William leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Joanne S. Collins; daughter, Stacy Collins; and son, Brett Collins; mother-in-law, Hedy C. Saulter (“Ma, Ma”) and godchildren, Ashtenne Blair Parker and Chris Ingram. Seven siblings, Bill (Lynn) Collins, Sr., Catherine “Kitty” (Latour, deceased) Wilson, Beverly J Bradley, Chatmon (Charisse) Thomas Jr., Angela Thomas, Brenda Thomas, and Terry Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
Celebrating a Life Well-Lived will be held Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the 1100 Stanton Place COGOP, High Point, NC 27260. The family will receive visitors and friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. – 12 p.m. The funeral services will begin at 12pm.
