Thomas Johnson, Jr. Obituary

Reidsville – Thomas Duane Johnson, Jr. departed this life on Monday, July 1, 2024. Born on August 16, 1986 in Greensboro, North Carolina, he was the second-born and youngest child of Rev. Dr. Thomas D. Johnson, Sr. and Donna Bradley Johnson. “T.J.”, as he was affectionately referred by family and close friends, took his place alongside his sister, Tomika, to become the “Preachers Kids” and resided in his hometown of Reidsville for most of his life.

Attending the local public schools of Reidsville, he was a proud member of the Reidsville High School Marching Band where he was a talented drummer and loved creating cadences for the drumline. While a student, he was also a member of the Reidsville High School Choir and traveled to the renown Carnegie Hall in New York for a group performance. “T.J.” furthered his education at North Carolina A&T State University, majoring in Business Administration.

Being nurtured by the influences of a Christian family resulted in him becoming a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Danville, Virginia where he accepted Christ and his Savior and was baptized by his father. Accepting a new pastoral assignment and furthering his ministry, Rev. Dr. Thomas D. Johnson, Sr. and his family relocated to Harlem, New York where he assumed the duties of Senior Pastor of Canaan Baptist Church.  “T.J.” was an active member, participating with the Young Adult Ministry and worked in the community.

Upon returning to North Carolina, “T.J.” was presently employed by Partner Hero as an Escalation Specialist and was very supportive of his son, Tamir’s athletic endeavors. He was a loving son and father, a devoted brother and uncle, a compassionate nephew, cousin and friend. Deeply, he will be missed. We will forever remember his infectious smile and his genuine love for everyone he met. We are comforted by the assurance that “T.J.” is now in the presence of the Lord, basking in the eternal glory of God’s love.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory: beloved parents, Rev. Dr. Thomas D. Johnson, Sr. and First Lady Donna Bradley Johnson; son, Tamir Johnson; sister and brother-in-law, Tomika and Marcus Fleming; nephews, Marcus, Jr. and Liam Fleming; aunts and uncle, Victoria Kennedy, Verita and Richard Robinson; special and loving cousins, Charles Hester, Richard Robinson, Jr., Terenda Miller and Kristian Kennedy; devoted and loving godmother, Tempia Totten; godbrother, Christopher Totten; special friend, Shantell Knight; other relatives and friends.
