Little Sue Mimms, affectionately known as “Sue”, was born on July 2, 1953, to the union of George Edward Mimms and Lucille Kate Nash in Caswell County, North Carolina. She was well-loved, and her smile was infectious. At an early age she accepted God as her Personal Savior.
Her family moved to Detroit, Michigan, during her early years. She moved to California in 1958 and later moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where she remained until her death on May 6, 2025. She graduated from West Anchorage High School and attended and earned a bachelor’s degree from Wayland Baptist University. She also pursued studies towards a master’s degree from Wayland Baptist University.
Sue was preceded in death by her loving mother, the late Lucille K. Adams, and her devoted stepfather, the late James L. Adams, of Anchorage, AK., and her stepsister Leslie Rawls, of Philadelphia, PA. She leaves to mourn her loss her devoted sister Jean Taylor (Robert), Monterey, CA; step-brother, Joseph Adams (Lena) Philadelphia, PA; uncle John L. Nash, Sr. (Gwen), Seaside, CA, her nieces; Tracie Withers, Richmond, VA and Ashley Smith, Greensboro, NC; a special cousin, John L. Nash, Jr., Spring, TX; a special nephew, Louis Rawls, Houston, TX, and a host of grandnieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She worked at ARCO (Prudhoe Bay, AK), Bell Nursery, and the State of Alaska (Alaska Psychiatric Institute).
Sue dedicated her professional life to public service, working with the State of Alaska. As a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Anchorage, AK, she served as a Greeter and volunteered her services in the Church’s Food Bank. Her commitment to her colleagues and the broader community was marked by integrity, compassion, and a readiness to lend a helping hand.
Legacy Remarks:
Sue had a steadfast presence in Anchorage—not only as a caring daughter and sister, but also as a meaningful conduit between her family’s Alaskan roots and her sister in California. She enjoyed traveling and nurtured her compassionate spirit with traveling and the love of tacos. Her generous spirit, sense of humor, and deep affection for her family and colleagues will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Your kindness and legacy will forever echo across the mountains and seas you loved so deeply.
Her legacy lives on through her loved ones and the countless lives she touched during her years of service and friendship. Sue’s presence brought joy and stability to her family and home. She was named “Little Sue,” who is known for her warmth, humor, and unwavering dedication.
Closing Thoughts:
Though Sue has passed on, her memory endures in every life she brightened—through acts of service, heartfelt conversations, and a spirit rooted deeply in Alaska. May her loved ones find comfort in the memories they shared and the profound impact she made on their hearts. Sue’s presence brought joy and stability to her family and home.
