Mrs. Shirley J. Jones Byrd transitioned to her heavenly home on Monday, October 19, 2020 following a short period at Hospice Home at High Point.
Shirley was born on February 24, 1937 in Thomasville, North Carolina to Bernice Ingram Worthy and Jackson Worthy. Shirley attended multiples colleges to obtain her Bachelor of Science degree and was last employed at RCS in Asheboro for seventeen years. She enjoyed loving and serving people and was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Thomasville, where she served as a nurse and an usher. She was a proud member of The Eastern Star, and was also a teacher for several years.
Shirley saw herself as traveling the world and dreaming big. She reached for the stars and became an actress. She appeared in a few movies that included, “Gospel Hill” that starred Danny Glover and Angela Bassett; and also in “The Sacrament”. On top of acting, she was a “beauty queen” participating in several pageants. She loved shopping and jewelry and appreciated beautiful things.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Dillie D. Jones, Jr.; two brothers, Leroy Worthy,and Wade Worthy; three sisters, Christine Worthy Terry, Eula Mae Worthy, and Colleen Worthy Silas.
She leaves to cherish loving memories; a devoted husband, Cirl Byrd, Jr.; six step-children; a brother, Carl Lewis; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and beloved friends.
A private service will be given on Friday, October 23, 2020 at the Chapel of Johnson and Sons Funeral Home, 206 Fourth St., High Point. Burial will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park, Thomasville, North Carolina.
