Shevona Chante Ricks, 31, transitioned on March 26, 2020. Shevona was born on November 8, 1988 to James R. Ricks, Jr. and Phyllis M. Ricks in Guilford County, North Carolina.
Shevona graduated from New Hope Christian Academy of Thomasville, North Carolina and pursued further education at DCCC to become a CNA. She was a CNA and Medical Tech at Northpoint Nursing Home and later worked at Camden Rehabilitation Nursing Home.
Shevona was a faithful member of St. Mary’s UMC in Trinity where she sang with the Youth Choir, and was a member of the Usher Board, Sunday School Class, and was on the Praise Dance Team. Mime dancing was her ministry. She loved dancing for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She played soccer at the age of six years old until she was sixteen for Guil-Rand. She also played tennis for her school, loved to swim and enjoyed basketball.
Shevona was preceded in death by her grandfather, Bishop J. R. Ricks, Sr.; aunt, Lila Devon Ricks, and great grandmother, Flossie McCoy.
Surviving relatives include her precious daughters, Jayla Chante Ricks, Jordyn McKenzie Ricks, and Zendaya Phyllis Ricks; parents, James and Phyllis Ricks; brothers, Damien J. Hayes, and James R. Ricks, III; a sister, Sheena D. Ricks; grandparents, Richard and Ruth McCoy, and JoAnne Williams Ricks; nephews, Jayden and Caysen Ricks; cousin, Maci McCoy; uncle, LaVant McCoy; a host of other relatives and friends.
A private Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 3, 2020. Burial will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens, Jamestown. Johnson and Sons Funeral Home is assisting the family.
