Sherry Nelson Obituary

Mrs. Sherry Lynne Nelson was born on October 8, 1958 in Anderson, Indiana to Willie Horace Amerson and Anne Swinney Amerson who both preceded her in death, January 2016 and May 2011 respectively. She was the oldest of four children to this union. Sherry attended T. Wingate Andrews High School in High Point, NC where she graduated in 1976. After graduation she joined the workforce where she dedicated herself to serving her community. She retired from Guilford County Department of Social services where she was lovingly known as “Mrs. Sherry.”

She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her husband of over 40 years, Alvin L. Nelson of the home, two adult daughters, Ebony Nelson and Aja Nelson (of the home). She also leaves behind her sister, Cynthia Buffong of High Point, NC, Efland Amerson (Yolanda) of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Carlton Blaine Amerson of Indianapolis, Indiana. She also leaves behind beloved in-laws, Carolyn Lovely, High Point, NC, Mary Jenkins, Charlotte, NC, Kenneth Nelson High Point, NC who to her was Kenny Rae, and James Nelson who she loving called Big Jim. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends that became family because that is who Sherry was.

Throughout Sherry’s life she made meaningful, kind, and lifelong relationships with so many people, with special regards to Karen Gwynn, Shirley Lindsay, Rose Linton, and Kathy Bullard. These friendships would withstand the tests of time. She also leaves behind two special “adopted daughters”, Adrienne McCall and Monica Stevens who she affectionately cared for like her own.

A Service of Love will be given on Friday, May 23, 2025 at Friendship Community Church-God, 201 College Rd. Greensboro, North Carolina.  The family will receive visitors and friends at the church from 11:30 to 12 noon.  The service will begin at 12 noon.
