Mr. Sherman Elis Scales was born on September 15, 1940, to his loving parents, Sam Scales and Mary Scales. He grew up in a little town called Scalestown, North Carolina.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Julia Scales; his daughter, Carla Scales; his four brothers, Irving L. Scales, Joe D. Scales, Garland Scales, and Oneal Scales; and his four sisters, Erma Galloway, Chattie Mae Waller, Othelia Hairston, and Mozelle Scales.
He graduated from Douglass High School in 1958. He was a man of many talents and had a remarkable ability to connect with people, making friends wherever he went.
He leaves his legacy to his daughter, Renee, and his sons, Jeffery Scales and Rodney Scales. His three grandchildren, Ashley King, Jaylin Scales, and Austin King. His stories are shared with his sisters, Joan S. Moton, Mary E. Millner, Yvonne Wilson, and Gwenevere L. Lanza. additionally, he leaves his cherished memories to his nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends, all of whom have shared in the warmth and joy of his life.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place at Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church, 146 Fisher Hill Road, Eden, North Carolina, on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Family Visitation from 10:30 am to 11:00 am, and the service starts at 11:00 am.
