Ms. Sharon Kay Brockington peacefully made her transition from this life to eternal life on November 20, 2023, at Blumenthal Jewish Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Greensboro, NC. She was born March 27, 1961, in Bennettsville, SC, to Mary Etta Hepburn Brown and the Late BJ Brown. She was preceded in death by her baby sister, Sara Bostic, and a nephew, Tevin Johnson.
Cheryl, as she was affectionally called by her family and friends, relocated to High Point, NC, at an early age. She graduated from High Point Central High School. Cheryl was employed at Montieu Elementary School until her health declined. She was a member of Williams Memorial CME Church, High Point, NC, where she was a member of the Mass Choir, Kitchen Committee, and Usher Board. Cheryl's love for spending quality time with her family, particularly her children and grandchildren, serves as a reminder of the importance of cherishing our loved ones.
She leaves to cherish her memories: one daughter, Jocelyn B. Townsend of High Point, NC; one son, Melvin C. Brockington of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Amari, Autumn, and Antoine; her mother, Mary Brown of High Point, NC; three brothers, James Brockington, and Prentiss Brockington (Tina) and her twin brother, Benny Ray Brockington all of High Point, NC; a special niece who was like a daughter, Tameria Johnson; her special friend, ex-husband and father of her children, Melvin C. Townsend and a host of aunts, uncles, other nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Williams Memorial CME Church, 3400 Triangle Lake Rd., High Point. The family will receive visitors and friends at the church on Friday from 12 to 12:30 pm and the service will begin at 12:30 pm.
The family will be at 510 Pemberton Court.
