Sandra Wheeler was born in Jersey City, NJ to Mattie Lee Smitherman, on July 29, 1959. After 3 years of living in New Jersey, the family relocated to NC where she would live the remainder of her life. In 1979, Sandra Wheeler graduated from Trinity High School where she was a cheerleader, and member of the softball & volleyball teams.
Sandra enjoyed basketball, football, baseball, boxing, golf, bowling, arcade games, reading novels, going to plays, doing puzzles, going to weddings & showers, crocheting gifts for close friends, attending concerts, watching TV shows, Madea Movies, going to church events, family celebrations, and most of all going out “with the girls”!! Whether it be shopping trips, trying different restaurants, book clubs, or bible study; she loved to fellowship with women of GOD. Over the course of living in Trinity, NC, Sandra would attend St. Mary United Methodist Church where she served as member of the Gospel Choir, Usher board, Sunday School, and the United Methodist Women. Sandra worked at Slane Hosiery Mill in High Point, NC, for 18 years as a package handler in the shipping and receiving department. In 1996, Sandra left Slane Hosiery Mill and began work at Polo Ralph Lauren in Greensboro, NC, where she was a package handler in various departments for 22 years before retiring in 2019.
Sandra Wheeler was married to the late Jerome Wheeler for over 25 years. Sandra leaves behind a son, Ryan Wheeler, 3 step-children; Jerome Edward Wheeler Jr., (Arleatha), Anita Wheeler, and Melanie Brutton (Reginald). Six sisters; Deborah Barber (Charles), Donna Canty (David), Kim Gordon, Linda Hemphill (deceased), Mona Moseley Garner (Charles); and Lisa Wall (Larry Wall). Also, Aunt and Godmother Mae Keaton. Five grandchildren; Ebony Wheeler, Shane Wheeler, Melody Wheeler, Isaiah Brutton, and Jaden Brutton. Along with a host of other relatives and friends.
In conclusion, Sandra loved GOD, St Mary’s, her husband, children, grandchildren, family and friends. She will always be known for her personality, big laugh, her kind soul, sweet spirit, gift of giving, and always showing up when giving an invite!!
