Roger Hickson Obituary

Roger Dale Hickson was born on June 1,1959 in High Point, N.C. to the now late Nellie Roseboro and Rev. Dr. Macon D. Clark. He was raised in the High Point Community and attended High Point Central High School where he was a good student, played in the school band and was also a popular athlete. During his junior year, Roger was the football team’s starting linebacker, when he executed a fierce tackle on the opposing team’s runner resulting in a devastating spinal cord injury that rendered him permanently paralyzed.

After adjusting to his injury, Roger enrolled in Guilford Technical Community College and later transferred to St. Andrews Presbyterian College where he earned a B.S. in Psychology in 1993. He later went on to receive a Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Southern University in 1996.

In 1997, Roger began his professional career with Louisiana Rehabilitative Services in New Orleans. He later became a Rehabilitation Motivational Speaker where he provided inspirational messages to the functionally disabled. Uplifting others became a passion and ultimately motivated him to become a member of Omega Psi Phi, Fraternity, Inc. He truly loved the fraternal brotherhood and served faithfully.

Roger later moved to Houston Texas after Hurricane Katrina destroyed his home in New Orleans. He continued his professional career at the Texas Department of Health and Human Services where he worked in the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, and a short time with the Department of Veterans Affairs in the State of Georgia.

Throughout his life Roger desired to rise to heights that most never dreamed of attaining. Wherever he went, he exuded wit, humor, and left an uplifting impression. That Big Smile will remain with us all, as we cherish his memory.

Roger was preceded in death by three brothers: Ronald Eugene Roseboro, Sr., Robert Roseboro and Randolph Roseboro.

These memories will especially live on through his sister, Teresa Hickson Baskin; nephews, Da’Juan Hickson, Nicolas Hickson, Ricky Baskin, Ronald Roseboro Jr., Tony Williams and Robert Jones; nieces, Tammy Jackson and Tonya Jones; cousins, Gwendolyn Green, Teresa Gray, Ronda Mitchell and Chris Dicky; close friends, Avery Cowen, Mark Johnson, Jackie Wall and Bruce Torrence; very dear friend, Coach Roy Boyles, his Fraternity Brothers and a host of other close relatives, dear friends.
