Reverend Roger Lynn Green was born February 15, 1945, to the late Lola and Ollie Mae Green. He departed this life on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
He was a lifetime resident of Randolph County and a devoted member of Bethel Glenola United Methodist Church.
Retiring from Twinning Tea and Jamestown Elementary School years ago, where he was affectionately known as Mr. Roger by the staff and the students.
Roger was a strong advocate for education, not only for himself but for everybody. He was educated at Trinity High School in Trinity and Guildford Technical Community College in Jamestown. He went on to college, graduating from High Point University with his B.S. in Psychology.
Roger accepted the Lord's calling in his late thirties. He served under the leadership of Reverend Otto Withers as an associate pastor at Bethel Glenola United Methodist Church. After attending Duke Divinity Seminary and graduating in 1999, he went on to pastor many churches, including McCrary Chapel, Shady Grove United Methodist, and Cox Chapel in Ramseur. Additionally, he served as a minister at Zion Hill United Methodist in Colfax and Peace United Methodist in Summerfield. After retirement, he returned home to serve Bethel Glenola and Liberty Grove United Methodist for 3 years. He also served as a chaplain at High Point Regional Hospital from 2006 to 2007. He was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Surviving with loving memories are a devoted and loving wife, Gwendolyn Green; daughters, Marketia Welt (Nay) and her husband, Stephen, of Peoria, Illinois; Felicia Glover (Lynn) and her husband, James; Lola Mae Green; and Sonya Ayears (Nickie) and her husband, William, of Atlanta, Georgia. Grandchildren include Anthony Walker, Malik Brown, Raven Woodruff, and Caleb Brown. He is also survived by siblings Barbara Green, Rev. Curtis Green and his wife, Georginia, and Kenneth Green. There are also a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Roger was a very humble man. A pillar in the community. A perfect example of a happy Christian. He laughed easily and would smile quickly. He raised his hands in praise to God, and the music moved his soul.
Today, Roger is resting in the bosom of his savior. He walks with Jesus beside the still waters, and along paths true and safe. He continues to receive the constant, loving care of a God he followed easily. "I count it a blessing and privilege to work in the vineyard for the Lord. My greatest desire is to continue to be a vessel totally yielded to God for his glory."
