Mr. Robert Lee Moyer was born on November 9, 1936, in Ruffin, NC. He was the son of Irene Helen Ruby “Grannie Large” Baize Moyer and Robert Pleasant “Papa” Moyer. He passed away on December 10, 2024, at Cypress Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation.
He worked at a bakery in Baltimore, Maryland, and later at JP Stevens in Greensboro, North Carolina. He helped construct the Owens-Illinois building and was hired as a janitor and groundskeeper there. Additionally, he worked at Anda Conda, a company that underwent several ownership changes involving firms such as Pannell Knitting, Sara Lee, and National Textiles. Despite multiple changes in company names, he maintained his job there.
Robert committed his life to Christ at a young age when he joined The Only Way Church of Christ in Blue Creek, NC, under the leadership of Rev. Giles. Later, he became a member of Bold Springs Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Samuel Scales, Jr. He remained a dedicated member until his health began to decline.
Leachie,” as he was affectionally called, was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was a true farmer who loved the land and enjoyed spending time outdoors; he tended to his garden and worked diligently in the tobacco fields until dark. Then, he would go to the tobacco barns, working tirelessly throughout the night to keep the fire burning. He was skilled with his hands and enjoyed building things, including his family home. He was passionate about fishing and enjoyed cooking outdoors in his large black pot, preparing soup and stew for his family, neighbors, and friends. His favorite food was fish. He was devoted to his family and worked hard to provide for them. We will always love him, and he will be greatly missed.
He married Carrie Jane “Nudie” Dalton, who passed away on July 4, 2015. Together, they were blessed with eight children.
He received loving and devoted care from his son, Charles, who was always by his side, and his daughter-in-law, Annette S. Moyer. Annette served as his primary caregiver for nine years, providing him with physical support. Throughout this time, both Charles and Annette ensured that he was lovingly cared for.
In addition to his parents, and his loving wife, he was preceded in death by his sons, Steve Moyer and John Moyer; brothers, Spencer Ray Moyer, Joe Louis Moyer and Eugene Hayes Moyer; sisters, Vinnie Nellie Bell Moyer Pinnix and Maggie Lorene Moyer Griffin; foster brothers, Nelson “Tatpole” Milliner and Nathan Hicks; granddaughter, Katarria Renay Moyer and grandson, Stephen Durand Moyer.
Surviving relatives who will cherish his memories include his children: Charles Levi Moyer (Annette) of the home; Clarence Edward Moyer; Linda Lee Moyer; Ronnie J. Moyer (Judy); Lonnie J. Moyer (Vickie); and Brenda Kay Moyer Tinsley. He also leaves behind grandchildren whom he helped raise: Linell Moyer, Dallas “DJ” Davis, Jr., and Kyla Breanna “Bree” Moyer Allen (Micheal). He is survived by his brother, George Curtis “Sun” Moyer (Sallie); his sister, Annie Frances Moyer Nunley; and a cousin raised like a sister, Druecilla Millner of Pittsburgh, PA. A host of other special grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Robert loved us all.
