The life of Reverend Roy Alfonzo Johnson Sr. (a.k.a. “Sonny”) began on January 29, 1935 and lasted until the angels came for him on January 2, 2021. Later that year, he became a licensed minister. He taught Men’s Bible Study, sung on the Male Chorus, and was the Assistant Teacher for the Men’s Sunday School.

After serving at Friendship Baptist Church, he returned to Galilee, his home church. While attending Galilee, he served as Associate Pastor, Sunday School Superintendent, sung on the Male Chorus, and assisted with the church Treasury. After the passing of his wife, he relocated to Vinton, Virginia, where he joined Jerusalem Baptist Church pastored by son-in law, Reverend Floyd W. Gregory Jr. and daughter, Evangelist Shirley A. Gregory, serving several years in ministry. He spent his latter years in Greensboro, NC, with his loving daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Dwayne Alford.
