Rev. Ronald Goss Obituary

Rev. Dr. Ronald Lane Goss, Sr. was born in Randolph County to the late William Harrison Goss and Rose Bell Smith Goss. He was the youngest of fifteen (15) siblings, and everyone who knew him fondly called him “Lane”. He was a one-of-a-kind person who never met a stranger and always had a kind and encouraging word to share with everyone. 

Rev. Dr. Ronald Lane Goss, Sr. attended the public schools in Randolph County and graduated from Asheboro Central High School in Asheboro, NC. The importance of education and knowledge was very near and dear to the heart of the Rev. Dr. Ronald Lane Goss, Sr. After graduating high school, Lane took classes at NC A&T State University and graduated from Shaw University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Behavioral Science. After working in the textile industry for numerous years at Burlington Socks, Steadmen and Sara Lee Industries in Asheboro until retirement, the Rev. Dr. Ronald Lane Goss, Sr. then set his sights on advancing his education and Christian Ministry. Rev. Dr. Ronald Lane Goss, Sr. would go on to obtain a Systems Technology Degree, a Bachelors of Theology Degree, Masters of Divinity Degree and Doctoral of Divinity Degree. And up until his health would not allow he had started working on obtaining a second Doctoral of Divinity Degree.

Rev. Dr. Ronald Lane Goss, Sr. loved sports and played several sports such as baseball, basketball and football during his high school career. He also played on travel adult baseball teams. Lane was also known as Coach Goss to many young boys and girls in the Randleman community as he coached for numerous years as his boys, Ronald Jr. and Antonio played rec. sports. The Rev. Dr. Ronald Lane Goss, Sr. was avid UNC- Chapel Hill, Baltimore Colts, San Francisco 49ers, Golden State Warriors and Atlanta Braves fan. 

Rev. Dr. Ronald Lane Goss, Sr. accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at a young age. The church played a key role in the life of his family growing up and they were very active in the Ferree’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Randleman, NC. Lane would be called to the ministry to preach and accepted this calling.  Rev. Dr. Ronald Lane Goss, Sr. started his ministry career in the United Methodist Church but would transition into the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church were his was actively pastoring for over sixty five (65) years. 

Rev. Dr. Ronald Lane Goss, Sr. has pastored on the Concord District and Greensboro District of the West Central North Carolina Conference under several Presiding Elders and Presiding Bishops. He has served at several churches on each of these districts and impacted the lives of the families he came in contact with in a very special way. The churches he pastored and served his calling to God were the following (first to present): Belleview A.M.E. Zion Church, Robbins, N.C., Eagle Springs A.M.E. Zion Church, Robbins, N.C., Zion Wesley A.M.E. Zion Church, Mount Pleasant, N.C., Rocky Mount A.M.E. Zion Church, Ansonville, N.C., McAuely Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, Mount Gilead, N.C., Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, Danville, V.A. and Mount Zion A.M.E. Zion Church, Mt. Gilead, N.C.

Rev. Dr. Ronald Lane Goss, Sr. loved his Randleman and Mount Gilead communities. Rev. Dr. Ronald Lane Goss, Sr. actively participated and held offices on several civic organizations throughout the years. Up until his health would not allow, he actively participated with the Montgomery County Ministerial Alliance, Randleman Housing Authority Board of Commissioners and was a Member of Saint Andrew Lodge 172 Burlington, N.C. Rev. Dr. Ronald Lane Goss, Sr was also a member of the King Solomon’s Grand Council Officers State of North Carolina where he is a Sub Line Prince 32 Degree Masonic.

Rev. Dr. Ronald Lane Goss, Sr. was preceded in death by his late parents, William Harrison Goss and Rose Bell Smith Goss; his brothers, Raymond Goss, Lewis Goss, James Goss and Arthur Goss; sisters, Juanita Greene, Dorothy Payne, Ida Mae Freeman, Thelma McNeil and others sibling that pass away at an early age.

Rev. Dr. Ronald Lane Goss, Sr. was a person that has strong values in family, religion and education. On June 12, 2024, the Rev. Dr. Ronald Lane Goss, Sr. moved from labor to reward. He leaves to cherish his memories First Lady Mrs. Ulah Jean Ingram Goss who he was married to for the last sixty (60) years. From their beloved union they had three children, Ronald Lane Goss, Jr. (Kelly), Antonio Darrell Goss (Marvine), and Shannan La-Rosa Goss Morton (Jeffrey). Seven grandchildren that he loved and adored, Antoinette, Alexandria, Ivy, Lily, Bailey, Jeffrey “JJ” and Ethan; one great-granddaughter, Royce “Roycie”. Rev. Dr. Ronald Lane Goss, Sr. has one living brother, Austin (Arutha), a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends. 

Celebration of Life Arrangements for the Rev. Dr. Ronald Lane Goss, Sr. will take place on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church. The church is located at 631 East Florida Street, Greensboro, NC 27406.  The family will receive visitors and friends at the church on Friday from 11:30 am - 12 pm.  The service will begin at 12 noon.

He is finally walking the Streets of Gold in his White Robe and Crown. To God Be the Glory!!
