Mr. Phillip Edward Ballard, Sr., 86, passed away June 5, 2024, at Meridian Center in High Point, NC. His health had declined over the past three months. Phillip was born on November 19, 1937, in High Point, to the now late Findeson and Marguerite Ballard.
Phillip attended High Point City Schools. Math was his favorite subject. A proud veteran, he served in the United States Air Force between 1956 and 1959 as a Military Policeman and earned awards and certificates for his service and training.
He was a strong believer in working every day. He was employed at Flowers Bakery, Jamestown, Snow Lumber Company, Sam Burrell Janitorial Service, and NAPA in High Point, NC where he worked twenty-four years until retirement.
Phillip was known as “Man” by his family. That he was. He was wise, smart, a good provider, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was everything a man and father should be and was admired by many who knew him.
He loved to fish, play the guitar, horseshoes, golf, walking, working on his own car and reading the bible. He enjoyed listening to music; his favorite singer was Jimmy Hendrix.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over thirty-five years, Mae (Mary) Thomasson Ballard; son, Terrence Ballard and four sisters.
He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis (Curtis) Parker of Thomasville, NC; son, Phillip E. Ballard, Jr., of Avon, Indiana; brother, Willie Ballard, Sr., of High Point, NC; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, June14, 2024 at the Chapel of Johnson and Sons Funeral Home, 206 Fourth Street, High Point, North Carolina. the family will receive visitors and friends from 11am to 11:30am at the funeral home and the service will begin at 11:30am.
