Mildred Swain Obituary

Mrs. Mildred Paulette Swain passed away on December 14, 2024, entering a place of eternal rest and peace. Born on June 23, 1941, in High Point, NC, she was the beloved daughter of the late Paul Welch and Shirley S. Welch.

She was educated in Trinity, NC, and graduated from Northern High School in Detroit, Michigan. Mildred worked as a teacher assistant in Detroit, Michigan, and Guilford County Schools in High Point, NC.

She was a devoted member of Baber Memorial A.M.E. Church in Detroit, Michigan. On May 14, 1960, she united in marriage with James Swain, Jr.,, marking the beginning of a journey filled with shared faith. Their relationship took on even greater depth when James was ordained, igniting a profound love for God that they embraced together.

As they ventured into ministry, she devoted herself to serving others with diligence, grace, and commitment as a missionary. His ministry journey led them to significant churches, including Price Memorial Church in Canada, M.S. Pearson Memorial A.M.E. Church in High Point, NC, and Stoney Creek A.M.E. Church in Burlington, NC, where he eventually retired. Throughout Mildred's life, she touched the hearts of many with her warmth and kindness, leaving behind treasured memories for all who knew her.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband, James Swain Jr.; her daughter, Theresa A. Swain; and her two grandsons, Jeraime R. Thompson and Graigory R. Thompson. She is also survived by her sisters, Barbara Canada, Jane Hull, and Ledra W. Walker, along with a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, family, and friends.

A service Celebrating the life of Mrs. Swain will be given at 11:30 am, on Friday, December 20, 2024 at Turners Chapel AME Church.  The family will receive visitors an friends at the church from 11am to 11:30am.  A burial will take place at the church cemetery.
