On Monday evening, August 5, 2024, Missionary Mildred Ann Bryant took her flight, escorted by a heavenly host of angels into the presence of the Lord, to hear from her Savior, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”
Mildred Ann Totten was born on September 23, 1936, in Rockingham County to the late Lewis Edward Totten and Edna Slade Totten. She was united in holy matrimony to Leanzar “Mississippi” Bryant, Jr. on August 31, 1956. He preceded her in transition to heaven on September 4, 2015.
She was welcomed into heaven to a great homecoming celebration by her precious husband and siblings who preceded her: Willie Joe Lawson, Lonnie “Buck” Totten, Lewis “June” Totten, Rosalee Totten Robertson, and Mabel Totten Neal.
Mildred was educated in the Rockingham County Schools System and later employed by 1-Hour Laundry, Fairchild Nursery, and Bob Adams Florist. She was a precious, loving caregiver for Kenny (Jane) Bryant and family for over twenty years, retiring in 2012. She was also a well-beloved and honored babysitter to many children in Reidsville.
Mildred gave her life to the Lord at an early age at Garrett’s Grove United Methodist Church, Gibsonville, N.C. Later in life, she united with Guiding Light Holiness Church, Reidsville, N.C., where she gave herself to the missionary and transportation ministries. Years later, Mildred’s mother heard the Lord to pioneer a ministry called Totten Chapel Holiness Church. Mildred and her family eagerly followed her to assist in the ministry. Eventually, the entire family heard to join themselves to Christ Temple of Deliverance, Reidsville, N.C., to continue the works of the ministry. She tirelessly ministered in the administrative, trustee, and transportation ministries and led the kitchen ministry. Mildred also served as superintendent of Sunday School and maintained the church and grounds. In whatever capacity she was needed, she would make herself available to minister in it faithfully.
Jesus said in John 14:12, “Verily, verily I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do, shall he do also, and greater works than these shall he do, because I go to the Father.” Well, Missionary Mildred Bryant exemplified this scripture. A mighty warrior of intercession in prayer, so many people knew that they could call on her to lay hands on the sick, and they would recover. If some were troubled or oppressed in the spirit, she would boldly speak, and the captive would go free. Many were led to salvation and true commitment to Jesus by her. Wherever there was a need for deliverance or a touch from the Lord, the Anointing flowed through her, and she glorified the Father.
What an amazing mantle and legacy to leave to your family.
She leaves to cherish and celebrate her legacy: two daughters, Levonne High of the home, Gwendolyn King (Roderick) of Reidsville, NC; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law Ellis Pearson (Simmie) of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Tammy Johnson (Chris), and Tavon High, both of Reidsville. Special brother and sister Reverend Robert and Delone King. Special cousins Dorothy G. Maynard and Nettie Totten. Special friend and prayer partner Amy D. Blackwell; special friend Augusta Simpson; her special group of Golden Girls; a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends
