Mary Curtis Obituary

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away…….

Mary Jane Chisem Curtis, 89,  passed away peacefully at the Genesis Nursing Facility in High Point North Carolina on Saturday, April 13, 2019 after an extended period of illness.  She was born on July 12, 1929 in Wadesboro, North Carolina to the late Jesse Jones and Mary Ann Chisem Jones.  She attended  public schools in Anson County and was a graduate of the Anson County Training School Class of 1950.

At an early age Mary confessed Christ as her personal savior and her spiritual journey began at Flat Rock Baptist Church in Wadesboro, North Carolina where she served with a strong sense of dedication, determination and diligence.

Mary later moved to High Point where she joined Miracle Temple Holiness Church where she was a faithful member.  She was a Mother of the church and was actively involved and committed on the Nurses’ Board which she had a great passion.  Mary enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.  She would often spoil her family by cooking their favorite foods or baking their favorite desert.

Mary loved to sing. She sung on the church choirs and also with her family.  They were known as “The Curtis Singers” that  traveled around to different churches and events singing praises to God.

She was united in Holy matrimony to Rev. Sheppard Curtis, Sr. whom she supported in the ministry, he preceded her in death.  Mary was also preceded in death by her children, Queen Esther Huntley, Myrtle Lee Williams, Sheppherd Curtis, Jr., Annette Laverne Ojeifoh and a baby girl that died at birth; sister, Lillie Mae Chisem, twin siblings, Annie Jane Tillman and James Chisem; and one grandchild, Cedric Jamal Curtis.

She leaves to cherish fond memories of her life, a daughter, Angilene Curtis Mitchell of the home;  grandchildren, Twanna J. Crawford, Tamekka Huntley, Tiffany Lynette Ojeifoh, Audrea Shaunte Ojeifoh, Eric Jamaul Brown, and Marchevitz Devon Curtis; God son, Connell (Bonnie) Stevens, 22 great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and a special grandchild, Aja Alexandra Nealy; cousin, Bessie Carter, who was like a sister, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course,  I have kept the faith…..

As she sleeps a perfect sleep,  Her memory we will always keep.    The Family
