Mary Etta Hepburn Brown, 90, transitioned to her heavenly home on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at her home in High Point, surrounded by her loved ones.
Mary, the daughter of Gus and Gertrude Hepburn was born on August 7, 1935, in Bennettsville, South Carolina.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, BJ Brown; two daughters, Sharon Kay Brockington, and Sara Bostic; and all her siblings.
Mary was united in holy matrimony to BJ Brown on December 25, 1960, and remained happily married until his death on November 4, 1995. To this union five children were born. She was fondly called Maryretta by many of her family and friends. To know Mary was to love her. She never met a stranger. She loved to be around family, whether it was hanging around the house with her grandkids or riding out with her baby boy, Prentiss, to visit relatives. Mary was a very hard-working woman. She retired from Marsh Furniture in High Point, NC after over 40 years of service.
Mary’s calm and loving spirit will be missed dearly. She is survived by her children, Benny, James and Prentiss (Tina) Brockington, all of High Point; ten grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and beloved friends.
A Celebration Of Life will take place on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at Williams Memorial CME Church, 3400 Triangle Lake Rd, High Point, NC. The family will receive visitors and friends from 12:30 to 1pm at the church and the service will begin at 1pm. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park, Greensboro.
