Mrs. Marjorie Estelle McCain Rankin, a native of Reidsville, NC, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, September 8, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born on May 13, 1929, to the late George W. McCain and Katie B. Carter McCain.
Marjorie attended Rockingham County Public Schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. She was an active and devoted member of First Baptist Church in Reidsville, NC. Her faith was reflected in her participation in several Missionary groups, specifically Groups 1, 4, and 5, as well as the Gospel Choir. She enjoyed these roles deeply and participated actively until her health began to decline. She had a special fondness for her favorite seat located in row 6, where she would sit to engage fully with the service. When she was unable to attend services, she showed her unwavering commitment by sending her children to church in her place, ensuring they stayed connected to the church she cherished so much.
She was deeply engaged in her community, dedicating her time and energy to several local organizations, as a member of the 21st Century Club, the Community Flower Club, and the Reidsville Downtown Senior Citizen Club.
In December 1948, she married Riley Robert Rankin, her soulmate and the love of her life. Their marriage blossomed into a beautiful journey that lasted an incredible 75 years, filled with shared experiences and cherished memories.
She held her family close to her heart, finding joy in every moment spent together. In her leisure time, she enjoyed crocheting, tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, watching the news, but her true passion was her favorite—Westerns. The legacy she leaves behind is a profound testament to her unwavering love. Her warmth and kindness will echo through the lives she touched, continuing to inspire and uplift everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Riley Robert Rankin; her oldest son, Wesley Rankin; brother, Charles McCain; stepfather, Frank Montgomery; as well as aunts and mothers-in-law.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Wayne and Joan; her goddaughter, Tynesha Cobb; along with her godchildren from Richmond, Virginia; her church goddaughter, Linda Bass; special friends, Ann Galloway, Marian Adams, and Gracie Stanley; former caretaker, Yvonne Wade; caretakers from Authora Care collective of Greensboro; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
