Greensboro -Lori Ann James, 60, earned her enchanted wings on February 28, 2021. She spent her final days surrounded by family.
On February 23, 1961, Lori was born in Greensboro, NC, to the late Lee Andrew and Shirley Jean James. She attended Guilford County Schools and graduated from Grimsley High School, where she was a cheerleader, track star, and a 1979 All-American nominee. After high school, she pursued a degree in fashion and merchandising at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (A&T).
Lori was a proud educator for Guilford County Schools for over 30 years. She loved children and was passionate about pouring into the boys and girls in her school and her family. She always made herself available to educate and encourage the youth. Her dream was to own a school or childcare center after retirement. She was well prepared to make that dream come true, having stocked up on school supplies over the years.
Affectionately known as "Auntie Ann" to close family and friends, Lori had a beautiful smile and infectious laughter that could fill a room. She loved her family deeply and found joy in the simple things. Always the life of the party, Lori welcomed and embraced all she met with open arms and a generous spirit. She was fun, carefree, and had a "keep it real" personality. Through her resilient spirit, she reminded others to keep going and cherish all that life has to offer. For several years, Lori collected beautiful angels of all shapes and sizes to display in her home. God finally said, "Well done thy good and faithful servant," so Lori has become our very own angel.
Lori was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lee Andrew James, Jr.; and a sister, Bonita James.
Left to cherish Lori's memories are daughter, Jeanna Conyers of Greensboro, NC; son, Rodney James of Greensboro, NC; brothers, Rodney James, Terry W. James (Gloria), and Rayshun James (Vanessa) of Greensboro, NC; one niece, (Tori); six nephews, (Brandon, Tre, Tyreke, Azeem, RJ, and Ayden); one great-niece; five great-nephews; two aunts; one uncle; and a host of close cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Reynolds Chapel Missionary Church, Greensboro, North Carolina.
