Mrs. Lillie Mae Abney Edwards made her transition from this life on Monday, March 13, 2023. She was born on July 9, 1926, in High Point, NC, a daughter of the late Mott Abney and Ella Coleman Abney. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Nancy Abney Little, Mary Abney Archie, Allen Abney, Charles Abney, Martha Lee Abney Archie, James Henry Abney, George Washington Abney, and Ella Jean Abney.
Fondly known to family and friends as “Cille,” she attended the High Point Public Schools. Lillie received her nurturing in Christian faith at Temple Memorial Baptist Church. She moved to New York in 1952, where she met and married Robert Lee Edwards in 1953, who preceded her in death on May 7, 2009. She was employed with Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York for 28½ years. After retirement, Lillie returned to High Point, NC in 1989 and restored her membership to Temple Memorial Baptist Church, where she served on the Gospel Choir and Missionary Group #1. Her favorite quote, “Look what you get if you’re lucky.”
She leaves to cherish precious memories several nieces and nephews, among them, her special nieces, Mrs. Charita Broadway and husband Walter, and Mrs. Cecilia Patterson; her special nephew, Mr. Jerry Archie and wife Dorothy, all of High Point, NC; her “Honey Baked Ham,” Mr. Anthony Harris and wife Renee of High Point, NC; her “Daughter-in-love,” Ms. Fannie Buxton; her “Golden Girls,” Pat, and Betty; cousins, in-laws, Temple Memorial Baptist Church Family, other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at the Temple Memorial Baptist Church, 1458 Cedrow Drive, High Point, NC. The service will begin at 12:30pm. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 12:00pm to 12:30p.m. There will be no public viewing, but you are welcome to acknowledge your condolences by signing the register book.
