Leroy Franklin Walker

It was April 24, 1954, in Abbeville, South Carolina when Leroy Franklin Walker was born to Henry Walker and Ethel Wardlaw Walker.  He transitioned on Monday, December 26, 2022, in Guilford County, North Carolina.

Minister Walker was a graduate of Abbeville High School and later attended Shaw University and Winston-Salem State University.  He joined First Emmanuel Baptist Church and served as an Associate Pastor for twenty-eight years under the late Rev. Mason, the late Rev. Lawrence Curtis, and then under the Pastor Rev. Ray Campbell.  He was active in Sunday School, the Young Adult and Lawrence Curtis Choirs, and class leader for BTU (Bible Training Union) classes. 

Minister Walker was formerly employed as a machinist in manufacturing and volunteered at a nursing home.  He enjoyed life, sports, music, reading his Bible, and talking to people.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Johnnie Mae Boddie, Henrietta Walker, Inez Lucas, and Loretta Florence Grambrell.

Surviving relatives include children, Nicholas Boyd, Ronald Boyd, LaQuita Boyd and Regina Jacobs; grandchildren, Ziyonnia, Zimiah, Zimir, and Malik Jacobs; three sisters, Virginia Dell Walker who was also his caregiver, of High Point; Cornelia Ann Walker of Columbia, SC; and Vivian Delores Rice (Vera) of Greenwood, SC; aunt, Josephine Bailey; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will take place on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at First Emmanuel Baptist Church, 833 Leonard Ave., High Point.  The family will receive visitors and friends from 12:30 to 1pm and the service will begin at 1pm.  Burial will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens, Jamestown.
