Laura Rhames Tobe the daughter of the late Willie Rhames and Warneta Billie Rhames was born on March 21, 1935, in Clarendon County, South Carolina.
Laura was educated in the school system in Clarendon County, S.C., later in life she moved to Philadelphia and then to New York City. Once Laura’s health started to decline, she moved to North Carolina to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Kenny.
After a lengthy illness with Dementia and after she had fought a good fight on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, Laura finished the race and was taken home to her eternal rest.
Laura was employed by Abe Schrader Fashions in New York City as a shipping clerk for over 40 years until her retirement in 1991. She was a sharp dresser and fashionable until she became more relaxed in her later years. Laura loved her Grands and took care of them while the parents worked.
Laura’s favorite past times were watching her stories and cooking. Her favorite story was the Young and the Restless. Laura loved to cook, this was one of the ways she showed her love for family and friends – all you had to do was make a request and everything you wanted to eat was prepared for you!
Laura was preceded in death by her parents Willie and Warneta Rhames, a brother, Eugene Rhames and her eldest son Ervin Gamble, Jr.
