Larry Whitney Starks was born October 5, 1948 to the late David Starks and Evelyn Brister Starks in Washington, DC. He gained his wings on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Hospice Home of High Point, N.C.
Larry attended school and graduated from Mckenley High School in Washington, DC. He then joined the United States Army where hew was trained as a Para-Trooper and was later assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division in Ft. Bragg, NC.
Upon moving to North Carolina, Larry continued to serve in the United States Army Reserves. He was employed by Piedmont Natural Gas company for 10+ years in Lauringburg, NC. After moving to High Point, he worked and retired from Flowers Bakery.
Larry was a member of Williams Memorial CME Church where he sang on the Gospel Choir, Senior Choir, and Male Chorus. He sometimes played the guitar in church as well and loved playing the tambourine. His love for music was one thing everyone knew and loved about him.
Larry was preceded in death by his brother Clarence Starks, sister Delores Smith and daughter Tammy R. Isaacs, and great grandchildren Terrance Walker, Derek Isaacs and Jalea Shields. Larry leaves to cherish loving memories of a life well lived, his wife, Dianne Starks, one daughter, Shawana (Warren) Torrence of Greensboro, NC; and three sons, Damon (Michelle) Starks of Hyattsville, MD, Jeffrey (Bernice) Shields of Eden, NC, and Lonnie Shields of Columbia, SC, Sisters Carolyn (Ronald) Norvell of Beltsville, MD, Gwendolyn Blagburn of Suitland, MD and Sheila Starks of Washington, D.C., Brother-in-law, Brandon Monk, nephew Willie James Robinson, 15 grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

The Celebration of Life Service will be given at 11:00am on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Greater Power and Praise Tabernacle, 1329 Kimery Drive, High Point. The family will receive visitors and friends from 10:30 to 11am at the church on Thursday.
