Larry "Newt" Dillard, Sr., gained his wings on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at Cypress Valley Nursing Home, Reidsville. He was born on November 5, 1955 in Reidsville, NC to the late Ernest Hensley and Alberta Dillard Hewitt.
Larry was a 1974 graduate of Reidsville High School. After graduation, Larry began to work in the textile industry for many years until he faced significant health challenges in 2015. While facing these challenges, he did so with courage and grace. His strength inspired those around him and showcased his dedication to his loved ones. Larry was known for his warm smile and generous spirit, always willing to lend a hand or share a laugh. He cherished the time he spent with his family, creating lasting memories that will be cherished forever.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Alberta Dillard Hewitt; father, Ernest Hensley; sisters, Constance "Connie" Dillard and Sandra England; brothers, Lennell Hewitt and Reginald LeRay Hensley.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Nancy Dillard; son, Larry Dillard, Jr.; two daughters, Tameka Totten and LaRay Sheffield; six grandchildren, Mekail Winchester, A'Jaya Sheffield, Mecca Winchester, Christian Dillard, Ai'Kari Tucker and Landon Dillard; great granddaughter, Mila Winchester; sisters, Lena Blackwell (Samuel), Sharon Turner (William), Patricia Settle, Regina Williamson, Cynthia Dillard (Wayne), Vasceylia Dillard, Vickie Jean Scott (John), Theresa Slade, Therese Hensley, Carolyn Courts and Joan Courts; brothers, John Dillard (Mary Ann), Gregory Hewitt (Tammy), Alfornia Hensley, Rodell Hensley (Louvenia); aunt, Larinda "Red" Blair; godsister, Debra Herbin; best friend, Michael Mooney Stubblefield and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 7, 2024 from the Galilee Greater International Pentecostal Holiness Church, 224 Pennsylvania Avenue, Reidsville, NC with Pastor Lenard Jones presiding and Bishop L Bernard Florence serving as eulogist. Burial will follow in Greenview Cemetery, Reidsville, NC. The family visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the church.
Public viewing will take place on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Galilee Greater International Pentecostal Holiness Church, 224 Pennsylvania Avenue, Reidsville, NC.
