Mr. Kirkland C. Artis, known as Kirk, the son of Mrs. Cozelle Scales and the late Mr. Billy G. Scales, was born on August 30, 1951. He departed this earthly life on Thursday, March 27, 2025.
Kirk attended elementary school at Douglass High School and graduated from John Motley Morehead High School in 1969. He also attended Rockingham Community College. Prior to retiring from PBM Graphics, he was a supervisor of the Printing Department. He also previously worked at Fieldcrest Cannon and after retirement he worked part-time at Tri-City Chrysler Jeep Dodge Kia and Tri-City Ford as a Car Courier.
Kirk was a faithful member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church beginning at the age of 11. He held multiple positions with the church as a Deacon, Trustee and Chairman of the Hamlin & Morning Star Cemetery Committee, along with serving previously as the President of the Gospel Chair, Usher Board and Culinary Committee. He enjoyed being a member and leading songs with the Gospel Choir and Men's Chorus for many years.
Kirk loved of all sports, especially his favorite college basketball team, the Duke Blue Devils and professional football team the Indianapolis Colts. He enjoyed participating in multiple sports like tennis, bowling, softball and was an avid golfer.
Kirk cherished his family relationships especially with his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly from the moment of each of their births.
His loving memory is forever embedded in the lives of his wife, Vivian S. Artis. Mother: Cozelle Scales. Two sons: Jeremy Artis (Staci) and Gregory Moyer (Clarissa) both of Eden, NC. One daughter: Dr. Antoinette Moyer-Woods (Nathaniel) of Eden, NC. Three sisters: Minister Daphne S. Wilson of Eden, NC; Joyce Newton of Middletown, DE; Mary L. King (Robert) of Axton, VA; and Debra A. Bryant (Keith) of West Haven, CT. Five grandchildren: Isaiah Artis of Eden, NC; Dr. Mariah Moyer and Dr. Makala Moyer of Atlanta, GA; Tyler and Kennedy Moyer-Woods of Eden, NC.; Along with a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
A service honoring the life of Mr. Artis will take place at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at the Morning Star Baptist Church, 607 Stanton Street, Eden, NC 27288 with Rev. Christopher S. Welch delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in Hamlin Cemetery, Eden, NC.
Public viewing will take place on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Fulton-Walton Memorial Chapel, 417 Price Street, Eden, NC 27288. Mr. Artis will lie in state on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Morning Star Baptist Church, Eden, NC.
