Juanita McClerkin Obituary

Juanita Hobson McClerkin was born October 21, 1941, in Petersburg, VA to the late Rufus John Hobson and Ella Lee Oakley Hobson.  Juanita departed from us on Sunday, May 12, 2025, Mother’s Day, at the home of her loving daughter Tabbatha Baker. She was surrounded by a host of family and loved ones.

In addition to her parents, Juanita was preceded in death by her loving husband and friend Clarence Edward Gidderon, two daughters Dorethea McClerkin Hert and Wanda McClerkin; one granddaughter Eboney Chavis; one grandson Ray Hert; three brothers John Rufus Hobson, Angelo Hobson, and John Thomas Hobson; two sisters Joel Hobson Cozart and Yvonne Hobson Cooper.

Juanita was educated in the Granville County school system and graduated from Mary Potter High School in Oxford, NC. After graduation, Juanita moved to New Jersey where she became a CNA and worked in several hospitals. While in New Jersey, she met and married her first husband Donald McClerkin who also preceded her in death. Juanita moved back to Oxford, NC for a while before landing in High Point, NC. She worked as a CNA at High Point Memorial Hospital for some years, then moved on to work at Holiday Inn for many years. She continued her career in hospitality as a manager at Radisson Hotel from which she retired. Juanita joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in High Point, NC. She was a faithful member and missionary who always helped anywhere and anytime she could. Hospitality and cooking LOTS of food for multiple events was her special gift. She loved it!

Juanita was a beautiful woman, an awesome mother and grandmother (to many children that were not her own), an amazing sister, incredible aunt, great cousin and fantastic friend. She leaves to cherish her memories, five daughters, Donna McClerkin, Dawn McClerkin, Tabbatha Baker, Tiffany Williams and Stephanie Chavis; one son Stephon Smith(Arteia); sixteen grandchildren Torrey, Brittany, Brion, Josh, Dwight, Paisley, Tavist, Denee, Tyree, Bria, JeShawn, Leigh, Brical & Rory; seven sisters Rose Marie Moore, Anna Mable Royster, Almeta Hobson, Bernice Royster(Wayne), Sylvia Hobson, Linda Hobson and Cordelia Evans; one brother Bernard Hobson(Linda); one aunt Anna Willis; three sisters-in-law Wanda Hobson, Thomasine Wilson and Pam
Wilson; 13 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

A Celebration of Love will take place on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Washington Drive, High Point.  The family will receive visitors and friends at the church from 11:30am to 12 noon.  The service will began at 12 o'clock noon. A burial will follow at GuilRand Memorial Park.
