Johnette Scales

Mrs. Johnette Henderson Scales, the beloved wife of Ronnie Scales, peacefully transitioned from labor to reward on Monday, May 23, 2022.  As a native and resident of Rockingham County, North Carolina for the majority of her life, she attended the local public schools and was a graduate of Reidsville Senior High School, Class of 1968.  She pursued further education at Rockingham Community College and Shaw University, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management in 1994.  Being an industrious and assiduous person, Johnette engaged in many paths of vocation.  For over 27 years, she worked in the banking industry and was formerly employed by First Bank of America and the First National Bank.  She was the former Operations Director for the Reidsville Chamber of Commerce, former Director of the Reidsville Outreach Center and was the present Public Housing Specialist for the New Reidsville Housing Authority.  Being civic and community oriented, Johnette actively participated in various community projects and assisted with fundraising efforts.  She was very instrumental in planning and aiding her father, the late John Henderson, Jr. with his political aspirations and community endeavors. 

At a tender age, she united with the Zion Baptist Church and served faithfully.  She was the Church Clerk, member of the Usher Board, Dance Ministry, Adult Sunday School, Missionary Society and former Assistant Secretary.  As an active member of the Rowan Baptist Association, she served on the Finance Committee.  Because of her true love mankind and her gentle nature, Johnette was loved and respected by everyone.  Whenever needed, she was there to help her family, church and community.  As a true humanitarian and a friend to all who knew her, she will be deeply missed. 

Her beloved parents, Carrie Ernestine Poole Henderson and John Henry Henderson, Jr., preceded her in death. Survivors are: beloved husband of 31 years, Ronnie Scales; step-children, Beth Smith (Thurman), James Morris Scales (Terri), Rodney Scales and Leslie Bergwijn (Clavon); step-grandchildren, R.J., Scott, Eric, Adora, Ashley, Aaron and Tyler; brother, Ilvarez Henderson (JoAnn); special nieces, Niki Henderson and Glynis Goolsby (Nathan); great-nieces, Mariana, Madalyn, Lillian and Natalya; goddaughter, Akia Stokes; aunt, Ruby Holland; sisters-in-law, Virginia Scales and Kathleen Blackwell; brother-in-law, Larry Blackwell; special friends, Linda Alexander and Fredia Jones; other relatives and friends.  Special appreciation to caregivers, Dea. Gerdia Keesee, Susie Lucas, Rochelle Tucker and Hospice of Rockingham. 

Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2022 from the Zion Baptist Church, 807 Piedmont Street with Dr. Gregory Headen presiding.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 11 until 11:30 a.m. at the church.  Public viewing will be Friday from 1 until 7 p.m. at Zion Baptist Church.  In every effort to protect our client families, protective facial coverings and social distancing are mandatory requirements.  Services will be live streamed.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Rockingham, 2150 NC 65, Reidsville. NC  27320.  Funeral arrangements are by Johnson & Sons of High Point.
