Jeanette Sellars Obituary

Jeanette (Mumford) Sellars, 74, entered a peaceful eternal life on Monday, November 29, 2021, at Hospice Home in High Point, NC. Jeanette was born In Chesterfield, S.C. on May 14, 1947, the daughter of the late Nathaniel Mumford and Leasie (Chapman) Mumford.  

Jeanette was a member of St. James AME Zion Church where she gave her life to the Lord at an early age. She graduated from Gary High School in 1965. In 1974, she relocated to High Point, NC and became a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ. She began her career in the hosiery industry as Quality Control at Silver Knit Industries and begin raising her family.  

Jeanette was a wonderful mother, great sister, loving aunt, fun cousin, and true friend! She always greeted everyone with her beautiful smile and loving and caring spirit. She never met a stranger. She loved preparing meals whether big or small for family and friends and would cook, host, plan and prepare for any occasion. Jeanette was “Mom” to many friends of her children and loved them all just like her own.  She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Jeanette was preceded in death by her siblings; Nathaniel Legusta “Bully” Mumford, Geraldine (Mumford) Malloy, Bobby Glenn Chapman, Anderson “Shang” Mumford, Mavis Laveda (Mumford) Lowrey, and Jesse James “Sonnie Boy” Mumford; two nieces, Ragina Mumford and Larissa Mumford; one god-daughter, Yulonda Faye McCall. 

Jeanette leaves to cherish her precious memories: two daughters Luciana L. Sellars of High Point, NC, and Angel Ruth Sellars-Evans (Clayton) of Jamestown, NC; five grandchildren Destiny C. Reed-Wood (Yusef), Germaini L. Brown, Zaiden A. Sellars, Germaine B. Brown, II and Zander Lucian Sellars; sisters, Shirley (John) Gordon and Barbara McQueen of Cheraw, SC; sisters-in-law, Shirley Chapman and Joyce Quick; brothers-in-law, James Lowery and John A. Malloy all of Chesterfield, SC and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

A Celebration of life service will be held at Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, 206 Fourth Street on Friday, January 28, 2022, at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Floral Garden Cemetery. Public viewing will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, January 27th from 1:00-6:00 PM.  Masks will be required for attendance.
