On Sunday, April 16, 2023, at 10:49 p.m. Mother Evelyn Brown Jones was called home to be with the Lord. Evelyn was born in Marlboro County, SC, on March 30, 1933. She was the eighth of nine children born to the now late Annie B. Graham.
She attended the Laurinburg City Schools. In 1952 she relocated to High Point, NC, where she met and married the now late Luther Jones on December 18, 1954. To this union, they were blessed with three children, Luther Jones, Gloria Kinton (Deceased), and Antionette Jones (Deceased).
She was employed at Harris Covington Hosiery Mills from 1965 until her retirement in June 1998 with thirty-three years of service. Mother Jones was a lifelong faithful and dedicated member of the Church of God of Prophecy, Stanton Place, where she actively served as Sunday School Treasurer, a member of the Ladies' Choir, and a proud member of the "Mothers of the Church". She also served in other departments of the church. Mother Jones unselfishly gave of herself, her time, her talents and inspired all who knew her. We thank God for her Christian life of service, love, and devotion, and she will be missed by all who knew her.
Mother Jones leaves behind to cherish loving memories; one son, Luther Jones, of the home; four grandchildren, Chris (Erica), Jessica (Jeff), Shelita (Lou), and Tyre; nine great-grandchildren, JaVon, Alaysia, Elijah, Harper, Jeremiah, Brielle, Josiah, Jyaire and Jaden all of High Point, NC; a special niece, Barbara Collins of High Point, NC; a special great-niece, Katina Graham McQueen (Little Ms. Nose) of Bennettsville, SC; a very special friend of seventy-one years, Minister Ida Covington of High Point, NC; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, April 22, 2023, from the Church of God of Prophecy, 1100 Stanton Place, High Point, NC. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 noon to 12:30pm. The public viewing will be on Friday from 1 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
