Essie Brown Obituary

“I have fought a good fight; I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” II Timothy 4:7-8

Essie Mae (Jenkins) Brown, the daughter of the late Henry Jenkins and Lula (Ham) Jenkins, was born January 15, 1945, in Florence County South Carolina. She moved to High Point NC with her late husband Leo Brown in 1965. She was preceded in death by her son Tommy Brown, granddaughter Brittany Moore, sister Dorothy Yarborough, and brother Robert Jenkins. Essie peacefully departed this life on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata, Maryland.

Essie attended the public schools of Darlington County, She later attended Guilford County Technical Community College to receive her high school diploma. She dedicated over 30 years at Marsh Furniture Company where she retired. She also loved her children, grandchildren, family and her church family.  She was a faithful member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where she served as a member on the missionary board, choir, usher board, hospitality committee, and as a deaconess. In addition, she volunteered at Habitat for Humanities and consistently donated to St Jude, and other organizations to make the lives of others better.

Essie will be remembered for her strong faith in God; her love for her family; her love for her church family; her willingness to help everybody; her beautiful demeanor; her beautiful smile; her kind words of wisdom; her willingness to volunteer and pray to make others’ lives better. Essie truly was a woman of substance.

Those left to cherish her memories are: five daughters Cathy Solomon Greene, of Mooresville, NC; Tamara Humphrey (Daniel), of High Point, NC; Angie Hall (Carl) of La Plata, MD; Kimberly Stapleton (James) of Mint Hill, NC; Andrina Brown of New York, NY; two sisters, Naomi Williamson of Darlington SC; Nancy Wingate (George) of Darlington SC. special sister-in-law Mary Boone of High Point, NC; special friend Mae Harrinton of High Point, NC. eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and a host of sisters-in-laws, brothers-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.

A Service of Celebration will be given on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 1710 E. Green Drive, High Point, North Carolina.  The family will receive visitors and friends at the church from 12:30 to 1pm and the service will begin at 1pm.  Burial will follow at GuilRand Memorial Park Cemetery.
