Eric L Alford

Eric Lee Alford, 52, of Thomasville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Magnolia Gardens Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Thomasville. He was born on August 12, 1972, in High Point, North Carolina, to the late James Edward Alford and Mary Melinda Tom Alford. Eric’s life was defined by his ambition, athleticism, and steadfast determination to overcome challenges.

Growing up in High Point, Eric graduated from High Point Central High School. He went on to attend Lincoln Nebraska State University, where he distinguished himself as a tight end (#88) with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. In 1994, he led his team to the State National Championship, a highlight of his athletic career. Eric also had the opportunity to briefly play for the New England Patriots, realizing his dream of making a significant impact on the field before health issues began to affect his career.

Eric is remembered not only for his impressive athletic achievements but also for his larger-than-life dreams and his commitment to making a difference. His legacy is felt deeply by those who knew him.

Eric was preceded in death by his parents, James Edward Alford and Mary Melinda Tom Alford; his brother, James Arthur Alford; and his sister, Margaret Marie Alford.

He is survived by his brothers, Jerry Louis Tom and James Eddie Alford of High Point; his sisters, Mary Ann Alford of Thomasville, Belinda Alford of Lexington, and Michelle Kinney of High Point; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.  

A service to honor Eric’s life and legacy will be scheduled at a later date. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to friends and loved ones for their support and kindness during this time.
