Elease Miles Obituary

Elease Lucas Miles was born in Marlboro County, SC, on February 20, 1932 to Watt Oliver Lucas and Carrie Lee Woods Lucas.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kelso Miles Jr.; son, Garry Miles; sister, Carrie Lee Lucas; brothers, John Lucas Sr., Roosevelt Lucas Sr., and Wallace Lucas; brothers-in -law Theodore Dilligard Sr., Lenwood Miles Sr., Winford Miles Sr., Lucius Miles Sr., Freddie Williams; and sisters-in-law Sylvia Lucas, Inez Lucas, Margaret Manning Miles, Margret Ree Mannng Miles, and Jennie Mae Miles.

Elease accepted Christ at an early age, joining Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Bennettsville, SC.  She attended Hebron Middle School, Blenheim Jr. High School, and graduated from Marlboro County Training  High School in Bennettsville, SC.  Shortly after graduation she married Kelso Miles Jr., and they began their life together in Patterson, NJ.  Several years later they briefly returned to Bennettsville, SC before settling in High Point, NC.  Elease was employed with the High Point City School System for over 30 years, retiring as a cafeteria manager.  She was an active member of Temple Memorial Baptist Church where she served on Minisionary Group #5 and the hospitality committee. 

After retirement, Elease volunteered at the Urban Ministries Food Pantry where she provided encouragement to those in need. She also worked at the semi-annual High Point Furniture Market, where she was cherished by her co-workers for her outgoing personality and pleasant disposition. 

She is now free from pain and at rest from her earthly labor.  She leaves to cherish her memory son, Barry Miles of Adairsville, GA; daughter-in-law Annie Miles of High Point, NC; Terry Tamar Miles of the home; two granddaughters, Ebony and Bailey Miles of Greensboro, NC; grandson, Howard Jackson of High Point, NC; two great-granddaughters,  Charley and Roxy Jackson of High Point, NC; five brothers: Prentiss (Ella Mae) Lucas of Latta, SC; Paul (Gloria) Lucas of Randleman, NC; Charles Lucas of Candor, SC; Joseph Lucas of High Point, NC; and Perry Lucas of Bennettsville, SC; two sisters: Ella Lucas Dilligard of Columbia, SC; Willie Mae Lucas McCrae of Bennettsville, SC; four brothers-in-law:  Fred Miles Sr., Jesse Miles Sr., Nathan Miles, and Bennie (Hazel) Miles all of Bennettsville, SC; sister-in laws:  Catherine Lucas and Nettie Lucas of High Point, NC; Doreen Miles of Thomasville, NC; Elizabeth Lucas, Teresa Williams, Ella Mae Miles, Gabriel (Lawrence) Johnson all of Bennettsville, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, surrogates, other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January, 31, 2018 at Temple Memorial Baptist Church, 1458 Cedrow Drive, High Point.  Service time is at 1:00 p.m. and Rev. Dr. T. Ashby Banister, III is the pastor.
