Edwin Garnell Belo, 75, died Saturday, April 8, 2023, at his home. A native of Randolph County, he was one of the first Black students who integrated Trinity High School in September 1963. He graduated from NC A&T and was a proud Aggie. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after over 20 years of service. Throughout his life, he was a lover of the outdoors, sports, jazz music, and tinkering around in his workshop with anything and everything. Most of all, he loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Edward Belo and Viola Green Belo; sister Lois B. Nicholson; and brothers Coyt L. Belo, Clifford Belo, and Larry R. Belo.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Cheryle Belo; children, Jason Belo and Amanda Belo (Andrew Johnson); brother, Thomas W. Belo; sisters-in-law, Bertha Belo, Joyce Belo, and Sarah Belo; aunts, Gladys Laughlin and Hilda Rector; uncle Winfred Belo; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, National Kidney Foundation, or American Diabetes Association
A funeral service will be given on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at First Baptist Church, 700 Highland Ave., Winston-Salem, NC. The family will receive visitors and friends at the church from 12 to 12:30 on Tuesday and the service will begin at 12:30pm.
