On January 19, 2022 God sent his angel to lead Mrs. Edna Earle Smith Boyd, 94, the Matriarch of the Boyd family to her new home in glory. Edna “E.D.” was the fourth child born to the now late Mr. Charles Baxter Smith Sr. and Mrs. Catherine Lilly Mae Smith, in Whitsett, N.C. on September 24, 1927.

Most of Edna’s life was spent in High Point, where she was introduced to the love of her life, Mr. James Edward Boyd Sr. and after eleven months the two were married on August 29, 1953. Two children were born to this union: Thierrette Natalie Boyd and James Edward Boyd Jr. In 1967, the Boyd family moved to their home located on Barbee Avenue. Mr. & Mrs. Boyd became pillars of the neighborhood, always helping those in need.
Mrs. Boyd was a long-time member of St. Paul Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon, a member of the choir, an active member of the women’s ministry, and had the great honor of being the oldest member of the church. Edna loved to sing, cook, play the piano, and be with her family, especially her great-grandchildren.
Edna was proceeded in death by her parents; her husband, James Boyd Sr.; two children Thierrette Terry and James Boyd Jr.; a grandson, Burnice Boyd; a great-great-granddaughter, Oakley Boyd; three sisters, Mildred, Jessie Mae, and Irene; and two brothers, Charles Jr. and Clyde.
Left behind to carry on her legacy are three grandchildren, Melvin Terry III, Veronica Terry, and Sherrita Terry; ten great-grandchildren, Ashlee Wragg, Ladayisa Boyd, Ja’Quez Boyd, Tionna Boyd, Savannah Boyd, Kingston Terry, Mya Terry, Melody Terry, Melaysia Reid-Terry, and Marhiyah Reid-Terry; two great-great-grandchildren, Oaklyn Boyd and Harmonie Lockhart; LaPrina Smith, who was like a daughter; two special friends, Ruth LaFon and Donell Smith; three special nieces Elaine, Theresa, and Carol Jean; and a host of other relatives.
A Celebration of a Life Well Lived will be given on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at the Chapel of Johnson and Sons Funeral Home, 206 Fourth Street, High Point. The service will began at 11:30am. Burial will follow at Piedmont Memorial Gardens.
