Edith Shoemo Obituary

Edith Mae (Foster) Shoemo passed away unexpectedly on February 20th in Atlanta, GA., she was born on December 12, 1963, in Queens, New York, to Josephine Rozzell and Aaron Foster. Edith grew up in New York City, where her vibrant spirit shone brightly. From a young age, Edith excelled in school, finding joy in her involvement with the Glee Club, where she nurtured her lifelong love for singing. This passion for music stayed with her throughout her life, and she later became a beloved member of a local band in North Carolina, performing at various events.

Edith’s dedication to her career was evident early on. With a heart full of compassion, she devoted herself to caring for the elderly. Whether working in skilled nursing facilities or as a private home health aide, Edith was known for the deep connections she forged with her clients. She didn’t just provide care; she made them family. In her later years, Edith took on the role of Chief Judge for the County of High Point, managing poll stations during elections. Always a beacon of light, Edith was quick to lend a helping hand, embodying selflessness and kindness that knew no bounds. She would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it, and her ability to care for others was unmatched.

Edith is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ira Lee Shoemo; her son, Justin Tymel Foster Sr.; and her father, Aaron Foster. She is survived by her sons, Dushon Foster Sr. (Donisha Peay) and Wayne C. Foster; her daughter, Ariell R. Shoemo; as well as stepchildren Lorraine Goddard, Ira Shoemo Jr., Linda Bernier, and Surrena Shoemo. She also leaves behind her mother, Josephine Foster; siblings Linda Foster, Donald Foster, Ronald Foster, and Paulette Foster; grandchildren Dushon Foster Jr., Justin Foster Jr., Danica Foster, Maurice Newkirk Jr., and Arianna Shoemo; and her unborn great-grandchild, Dushon Foster III.

Edith’s legacy of love, care, and dedication to others will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be dearly missed, but her light will continue to shine in the memories of all who were blessed to call her family and friend.
