Dr. Gloria Hamlet Allen was born to the late Reverend Earlie James Hamlet and Melinda Pass Hamlet on June 27, 1940, and was welcomed into the loving, eternal arms of Jesus on May 30, 2022, with her loving son by her side.
She was born in Rockingham County, NC and educated at Booker T. Washington High School in Reidsville, NC. She met and married James W. “Tootsie” Allen Jr. in Reidsville, who preceded her in death, and to this union was born three beautiful children.
Dr. Allen, worked at Annie Penn as a CNA for over 25 years. After retirement she served as the Chaplin at Annie Penn until her health started to decline. She enjoyed cooking, not just for her family but for anyone in Reidsville. Some of her specialties include fried chicken, potato salad and her homemade moon pies.
She professed her life to Christ at an early age and was the Pastor of Guiding Light for over 25 years. She began studies towards her Doctorate in Divinity in 1995. She held positions with the compliance board of the NAACP and was a pillar amongst the community.
Dr. Allen was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years James W. Allen Jr., her parents and her son Michael Allen. Along with her sisters, Lois Mills and Shirley Neal and brothers Earlie Hamlet Jr., Jerry Lee Hamlet and Samuel Hamlet.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son James (Mia) Allen III of Sanford, Florida, and daughter Kymberly (Ken) Allen Shields of Winston Salem, NC , a brother Eugene (Delphine) Hamlet of Stoneville, NC; four grandchildren Kenneth W. Shields II, Lakenya Shields, Asia Allen, Sidney Allen; three great grandchildren Kenneth W. Shields III, Kynadee Shields, and Zoe Shields; an adopted daughter, Phyllis Shields; a God daughter, Joyce Ferrell; three special nephews: Steve, Levitus and Ivan whom she loved and cared for deeply; a devoted cousin and caregiver, Pearlie Ferrell; devoted caregiver, Marlene Alverson; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

Funeral services will be conducted Noon Saturday, June 11, 2022, from the Benaja Mount Zion Holiness Church of God, 600 Mc Walker Road, Reidsville, NC. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11 until 12 p.m. at the church. In every effort to protect our client families, protective facial coverings and social distancing are mandatory requirements. Funeral arrangements are by Johnson & Sons of High Point.
God saw the road was getting rough, He smiled down on Gloria and whispered "That's enough, The battles been fought, The victory won, Servant of God, well done."
