Dorothy Lee McDonald lovingly known as “Dot”, the daughter of the late Leonard Parson and Martha Mills Green was born September 28, 1948 in Asheboro, North Carolina. She attended Asheboro Central High School and earned her GED from Randolph Community College. She worked for Bossong Hosiery Mill for 15 years. Dot had an entrepreneurial spirit and combining that with her love for children, she went on to own and operate Dorothy’s Child Care for 23 years. However, the job that she was most proud of was raising the next three generations of her family.
Dot became to know Jesus Christ at Ferree’s Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age and was a faithful member for nearly 60 years. At Ferree’s Chapel United Methodist Church, she served faithfully as a member of the Trustee Committee and the Usher Board. She also held positions as a devoted Sunday School teacher, Treasurer and President of United Methodist Women. She looked forward to Ferree’s Chapel UNC annual Rainbow Tea sponsored by the United Methodist Women. Dorothy was also dedicated to serving her community. She took pleasure in visiting residents of retirement homes, she was a loyal supporter of Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday breakfast. She never failed to support and encourage her children and grandchildren in their after-school activities. Dot would soon find her own interest in physical fitness and would then join her local gym where she met and befriended countless people. She looked forward to seeing her friends every morning at the Randleman Recreation Center. Dot especially loved cooking Sunday dinner but more over loved to see friends and family devour what she prepared. She loved to prepare her signature “homemade” ice cream.
Dot was a devoted daughter-in-law to her late mother-in-law, Rose McDonald, and cherished their nightly calls. She quietly departed this life Monday, January 31, 2021 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina. She is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Parson and Martha Green, her sister, Dixie Holland and her brothers, Albert Mills and Leon Parson.
