Mrs. Doris Bynum Watson, age 94 of Greensboro, NC passed away Monday, June 2, 2025 at her residence of over 40 years. She was born April 30, 1931 in Wilson County North Carolina to the late David and Hattie Bynum. God decided she had fought a good fight and took her home for eternal sleep . Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 49years, Leslie Persell Watson; son, Donald Ray Bynum; brothers, Roy Bynum and David Bynum; sisters Eva Cooper, Effie Dawson, Elizabeth Ruffin, Olivia Kirby, and Nettie Becton; daughter in law Belinda Lewis; grandson Quincey Lewis.
Doris was raised in Wilson, North Carolina among a family of 9 sisters and brothers. She found Christ at an early age. Doris was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by her. We ask that you remember her for the way she lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Doris migrated to New York and met her beloved husband Leslie Persell Watson in 1959 and they spent the next 22 years in Brooklyn, NY. In 1978, Doris and Leslie relocated to Greensboro, NC where they started their own trucking company L&D Trucking while Doris worked at Bristol Myers Squibb, where she retired in the late 1990s. After her retirement, she continued to stay busy by being a loving grandmother and later being a caregiver for those ailing in health. Doris never turned away anyone who might be in need or dire strait. She had a heart of gold and loved her family and friends deeply.
Left with cherished memories are son Savalus Lee Lewis (MS); son in love/nephew Deacon Dwight Kirby (NC); grandchildren, Chantelle Renee Bynum (NC), Eric Brooks (Onjienika)(VA), Elliott Chavis, Corey Lewis ((Maxine) (NY), Dana Amanda Bynum-McMurry (Brennan II) (IL), Deanna Arnita Bynum (TN); great grandchildren, Stephen Bynum (FL), Quincy Lewis (NY), Kori Lewis (NY), Lainey Brooks (VA), Lauren Brooks (VA), Orion Brooks (VA), Brennan Holbrook Northington McMurry II, James Arthur Stokes IV, Braken Dawn Amanda McMurry, Bella Blake Bynum McMurry, and Bailei Brooke-Lynn Dana McMurry; sister Deborah Bynum (NC); sister in law Nedgia Sherrod (NC); brother in law Deacon Willie Watson (Inge)(NC); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends that who will miss her dearly.
A Service Celebrating the Life of Mrs. Watson will take place at 11am on July 19th at the Chapel of Johnson and Sons Funeral Home, 206 Fourth Street, High Point.
