Deacon Fred Nunnally Obituary

Pelham - Deacon Fred Lindsey Nunnally departed this life on Monday, May 2, 2022.  Affectionately known to many as "Bill" by family and friends, he was born on October 21, 1928 to the late James Henry and Carrie Hooper Nunnally. 

As a native and lifelong resident of Caswell County, North Carolina, he attended the local public schools and was employed by Dan River Mills for many years.  After an illustrious career of laboring, he retired from Fieldcrest-Cannon Corporation.  At a tender age, Fred professed his love and faith in God and united in fellowship with the Rocky Ridge Missionary Baptist Church.  As a resolute member, he actively participated with the Board of Deacons, Trustee Board, former Superintendent of the Sunday School, Senior Sunday School Teacher, member of the Male Chorus, Church Bus Driver, Cemetery Committee, Grounds Keeper, attended to the Baptismal pool, as well as, other activities of the church.  Being well known and respected in the community, he was a member of the Pelham Lodge No. 571 F&AM (PHA) and a volunteer fireman for the Pelham Fire Department.  Always willing to help others, he loved people and would cut grass, cut hair, take those in need to doctors appointments as well as other places they desired.  As avid sportsman, Brother Bill enjoyed bowling, playing horseshoes, baseball, riding his motorcycle, working in his garden, landscaping around his home, watching westerns and of course, smoking his pipe. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his, Irene Hairston Nunnally, beloved wife of 68 years; son, Fred Wayne Nunnally; grandson, Benjamin; brothers, Howard, Bernard and Willie.  He leaves to cherish his memory: loving and devoted daughters, Irene Saphonia Oliver, Wanda Nunnally, Cynthia Nunnally-Day (Clint) and Myra Hall; son, Donnie Nunnally, Sr.; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter that became the love of his life.  sister, Rebecca N. Johnson; two brothers-in-law, James D. Hairston (Inez) and John T. Hairston (Margaret); sister-in-law, Nannie Jeffries; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  We thank God for the beautiful life of Deacon Nunnally and the admirable traits for all to emulate.  Well Done!     

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2022 from the Rocky Ridge Missionary Baptist Church, 1694 Highway 158 East with Pastor Troy Wallace as the eulogist.  The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 until 1:00 p.m. at the church.  In every effort to protect our client families, protective facial coverings and social distancing are mandatory requirements.  Public viewing will be Sunday afternoon from from 2 until 6 pm at Cornerstone Christian Center, 516 North Scales Street.  Funeral arrangement are by Johnson & Sons, High Point, NC.
