On Tuesday, December 1, Curtis Leon Melton laid down his earthly cares and answered the Lord’s call.
“Curt” was born February 24, 1961 in Wadesboro, NC to the late Betty Elizabeth and John Wayne Kersey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Anthony Wayne Melton and nephew, Carl Edward Melton, Jr.
Precious memories remain with his brothers, Carl Edward Melton, Sr, John Edward Kersey, Gary Wayne “Kandi” Kersey and Demetrus Tyrone Kersey (Tarsha); sister-in-law, Linda; aunts, uncles, close cousins and a host of other loved ones and friends.
Though small in stature, Curt, excelled in many sports, especially basketball. During basketball camp at 14, he was selected MVP by Harlem Globetrotter, Curly Neal. He continued to demonstrate his athleticism at High Point Central High School as star point guard. After graduating high school, Curt was employed in the furniture industry.
In earlier years, he attended Mount Vernon Baptist Church and later frequented Union Baptist Church. Curt was well-known in the community and is remembered fondly for his encouraging nature and the generous spirit with which he cared for his parents. He enjoyed life to the fullest and treasured time with family and friends. It was seldom that a day passed without Curt calling on or spending time with his favorite cousins.
Curt’s presence will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
A public viewing will be given on Wednesday, December 9th, at Johnson and Sons Funeral Home, 206 Fourth Street from 12 noon to 6pm.
