Alberta Brothers Obituary

Mrs. Alberta Brothers, the daughter of the late Melvin Wright, Sr. and Eloise Metz Wright was born in Fairfield County, South Carolina.  She entered into eternal life on Thursday, December 16, 2021.

She attended public schools in Fairfield County, South Carolina, followed by two years of business school. After relocating to Greensboro, North Carolina, she was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Richard Brothers, Jr.  God blessed this union with two daughters.

Alberta began her professional career as a secretary at Bluford Elementary School in Greensboro, North Carolina. While living in Greensboro, she was a faithful member of Bethel AME Church.

When the Brothers’ Family moved to Charleston, South Carolina, Alberta transferred her membership to Mother Emanuel AME Church.  After getting the family settled in Charleston, she began working as a secretary at Rivers Middle School and continued to serve there until retirement.  During her tenure at Rivers Middle School, Alberta was honored to be selected as the Charleston County Schools Secretary of the Year.

In 2009, Alberta returned to Greensboro to be closer to her daughters and other family members.  She was delighted to rejoin the Bethel AME Church family.

Alberta’s life was forever changed after she suffered a massive stroke in 2016.  Even though the stroke left her with irreversible physical and cognitive challenges, she still managed to smile and show caring to others up until her last days on earth.

Alberta will be remembered for her beauty, grace, love, kindness, and commitment to her family. Her husband, Richard Brothers, Jr., joined the heavenly angels in 1988.  Additionally, two brothers and two sisters, Willie Wright, Melvin Wright, Jr., Bernice Adams, and Catherine Boyd preceded her in death. Her loving niece, Pamela Adams, departed this life in 2020.

Alberta will be remembered as a magnificent mother, caring sister, dedicated employee, and compassionate friend.

Fond memories shall be eternally cherished by her two devoted daughters, Teresa Brothers and Camilla Brothers of Greensboro, North Carolina; her sister, Mrs. Rose Bass of Hartford, Connecticut; her two brothers, Mr. Eddie Wright of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Mr. Boykin Wright of High Point, North Carolina,  a host of nieces and nephews, in-laws/extended family, other loving relatives and grieving friends, all of whom will deeply miss her.

A Celebration of Life will be given at 1pm on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Bethel AME Church, 200 Regan Street, Greensboro, North Carolina.  The family will receive visitors and friends at the church from 12:30 to 1pm.
