Rev. William W. Thompson, Jr. departed this life Monday, July 22, 2019 at the Durham VA Hospital. He was born October 19, 1942 in College Grove, Tennessee to William Wilson Thompson, Sr. and Geneva Oglesby Thompson. Rev. Thompson graduated from Franklin Training High School in Franklin Tennessee. He obtained an Associate Degree from Jefferson College and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Shaw University. He furthered his studies at Shaw Divinity School.
Rev. Thompson proudly served in the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne Division. He married the love of his life, Rebecca Gray Thompson and was blessed with 54 years of marriage. To their union were born two daughters Danielle Thompson Goode and Stacy Thompson Ballard. His employment history includes 20 years at Jiffy Manufacturing Company and 13 years at Super Brand Dairy. He concluded his career as the Prison Chaplin at Randolph Correctional Center.
He was called into ministry and was ordained by the Rowan Baptist Association. He pastored Liberty Grove Baptist Church for thirty-six years. He touched many lives through his church and prison ministries.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Geneva Thompson, Sr.; brother, Alexander Thompson, sister, Anita Coley and daughter, Danielle Thompson Goode.
Left to Cherish his loving memory are: his devoted wife, Rebecca Gray Thompson; daughter, Stacy Thompson Ballard (Quinton); Sister, Delores Griffey (Rev. Dr. AT); brother, Theodore Thompson; sister Robin Thompson; brother, James Thompson (Terri). He had two grandsons Gabriel Ballard and Justine Goode; son-in-law Carlton Goode; sister-in-law, Barbara Gray; a host of nieces; nephews, cousins, other relatives and many treasured trusted friends.
A Celebration of Life will be given at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 27th at New Hope Community Fellowship, 10445 N. Main St. Archdale. The family will receive visitors and friends from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Burial will follow at Guil-Rand Memorial Park.
