Rebecca Ann Gray Thompson departed this life Friday, September 27, 2019. Rebecca was born April 14, 1940 to Otis and Beulah G. Gibson in Randolph County, North Carolina.
Rebecca graduated from William Penn High School and furthered her education at Shaw University. She was employed at Clarendon Industries for over 20 years and retired from Randolph County Schools System.
Rebecca love the Lord and professed her faith while attending First Baptist Church, Trinity. She served as an active member of the Deaconess Board, Women’s Progressive Club, Usher Board, and Sunday School. She also eagerly supported her husband, the late Rev. William W. Thompson, Jr., as First Lady during his 36-year tenure as pastor of Liberty Grove Baptist Church.
Rebecca was known for her fighting spirit and for keeping everyone on their toes. She enjoyed cooking and baking for Nana’s boys. Justin’s chicken casserole and Gabriel’s 4-layer coconut cake were her specialties. Rebecca relished being surrogate mother/grandmother to Terri Thompson(James), Keith Gibson (Kathleen) Lexi Gibson, Scott Gray, Joshua Gray and others. She enjoyed participating in Silver Sneakers as well as breakfast and lunch outings with friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend William W. Thompson, Jr.; daughter, Danielle Thompson Goode; parents, Otis and Beulah Gibson; brother, Robert (Bobby) Gray and sister, Joyce Gibson (Richard).
Left to cherish loving memories are her daughter, Stacy Thompson Ballard (Quinton); sisters-in-law, Barbara Gray, Delores Griffey (Rev. Dr. AT), and Robin Thompson; brothers-in-law, Theodore Thompson and James Thompson (Terri); grandsons, Gabriel Ballard and Justine Goode; son-in-law, Carlton Goode; Godson, Brandon Brown; a host of nieces; nephews, cousins, relatives and many treasured, trusted friends.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 12:30 pm at First Baptist Church, 12504 Trinity Rd.,Trinity. The family will receive visitors and friends from 12 noon to 12:30 at the church on Saturday and other times at the residence. Burial will take place at Guil-Rand Memorial Park.
