Minnie Ashe Obituary

Minnie Maxine Brayboy Ashe, 72 of Thomasville, NC peacefully transitioned from this life on Tuesday November 20th at the HOSPICE Home of the Piedmont in High Point after a 1 year battle with Pancreatic Cancer.

Maxine was born and raised in Thomasville, and retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries.  She was a graduate of Church Street High School Class of 1964 and a fan of all sports; high school, college and professional. She was a dedicated supporter of the Thomasville Bulldogs and a DUKE basketball fan. The staff at High Point Hospital and the Cancer Center lovingly referenced to her as 'Coach'. If you encountered her in the streets, she would ask about your family, your grades, or the latest games.  She worked hard and played even harder as an athlete on the basketball team at Church St. School and on three community softball teams as an outfielder.

Maxine was raised by her mother, aunts and uncles at the 'Big House'. For many years the family, friends and community could get the best cooking and canned goods upon request. Later in life, Maxine came into her natural endearment as a caregiver, a great cook, and handled the business of the family which manifested into years of care for all of her aunts and uncles until their deaths. The City of Thomasville was impacted by her volunteer work: Thomasville Citizens Fire Corp, Liberty Drive Elementary Community In Schools Mentor, High School PTA Member, The Red Hat Society, YMCA/Silver Sneakers Member, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1981, and the Progressive Actors Theatrical Group

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Bishop Brayboy and Essie Farabee Brayboy; brother, Arthur 'Bill' Farabee; and niece, Althea Celestine Kirby.

Surviving to cherish her memory: Ms. Clara Mae Farabee a devoted aunt, Davion Farabee a cousin whom she raised as her son, David King (wife Sandra) another dear friend whom she called her son.  Maxine had cousins that were raised as sisters and brothers: Magaline F. Bowman, Ricky Farabee, Doland and Roland Farabee.  Nieces: Angela (Carlton) Hogan, Ra'Donna (Larry) Finney.  Nephews: Arthur Gregory Farabee, Raynoda Kirby. A host of cousins, great nieces and great nephews.  Special thanks to those both family and friends who cared for her on this journey: Shelly Skeen, Kelly Skeen Johnson, Robert 'Cookie' Lewis, Helen Eaddy, Pastor Gracie Hopkins, Jeff (her neighbor) and Archie Bingham.

A Celebration of a life well lived will be given at 12:00 noon on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Greenwood Baptist Church, 1010 Lexington Avenue, Thomasville, North Carolina.  The family will receive visitors and friends from 11:00 to 12 noon.  Burial will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park, Thomasville, North Carolina. Family visitation on Friday will be 2pm to 10pm at Maxine's residence, 510 Pontiac Drive, Thomasville.
